Welcome to Michiana Covenant Academy. We are designed to serve homeschooled children by offering classically-oriented academic classes taught by qualified teachers for students in grades K–12. We offer three, ten-week trimesters per academic year. We operate under the oversight of Michiana Covenant Presbyterian Church and have been granted the privilege of using their facilities.
When: We currently offer seven 50 -minute class periods every Wednesday between 9:00 am and 4:20 pm. We have an administrator on campus during each class. A Study Hall is offered during each class period to provide carpooling families with one drop-off and pick-up time.
Classes we have offered in the past: Logic (grades 7–12), Composition (4–7), Literature (7–12), Music (K–3 and 4–7), Geography (3–5), Art (K–3, 4–7, 8–12), History (9-12), Latin (9-12), Beginning Recorder (4–12) and others. We strive to offer classes that help lighten the load for the homeschooling parent. We hope to continue to expand our course offerings.
Our sessions for the 2010-2011 academic year are:
First Trimester 9/29/10-12/8/10
Second Trimester 1/5/11-3/9/11
Third Trimester 3/23/11-5/25/11
Fees: There is a family registration fee of $45 due once per academic year. Each class costs $75 and labs are $50 for ten weeks of instruction. There is no charge for study hall as long as the child is enrolled in at least one other class. Some classes require you to purchase books and/or materials prior to the start of class. A few classes such as Art and Science have a material fee which will not exceed $5.
Grades: We recognize that you, as a homeschooling parent, have the final say in grades. However, for some classes, such as Writing, Logic, Literature, etc., the teacher will supply a grade for your child within one week of the final class. Classes such as Art and Music are not graded unless requested. We do not keep any transcripts for students.
Teachers: Our board screens and hires qualified professionals to teach subjects in their areas of expertise. This affords you the opportunity to focus on other areas in your homeschooling. If you are qualified to teach or know someone who is, please contact us for more information.
Parent Responsibility: We have a Student Handbook which outlines parent and student responsibilities. Parents are not required to teach or volunteer. We do ask that you make sure your students are checked in and out on time.
We are excited to have our first trimester class offerings posted. These descriptions are for the current classes but most of the classes are three trimesters. All classes happen on the Wednesday of each week for the duration of each trimester. Our high school courses are all three trimesters so they will work well for high school credits. Students may take any or all three trimesters of each class. Our music, art, middle school literature, and geography classes are for all three trimesters but the descriptions will change with each trimester. Our writing courses are designed for all three trimesters and will work well for all levels of writing abilities.
