In this class, students will learn how to read music and work together as they learn to play the recorder. The recorder teaches students to read music, develops hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills, will develop students’ musical skills, and can be successfully played well, which promotes self-confidence and a love of learning. In addition to the recorder, this class will promote music appreciation through the study of various forms and genres of music throughout music history, from ancient to modern music. This course will be graded, and minimal homework will be given.

This introductory music class will provide an active and hands-on opportunity for students to begin to learn how to read music and work together as they sing and play handbells, boomwhackers, and unpitched percussion instruments. Additionally, this class will promote music appreciation through the study of various forms and genres of music throughout music history, from ancient to modern music. This course will not be graded.
