Music / Grades 3-5 / Period 5 / RP / 1T-2T-3T
Music (3-5)
In this class, students will learn how to read music and work together as they play in a variety of ensembles. The two books that will be used are World Music Drumming, which teaches different percussion arrangements from around the world, and Boomwhack Attack, which is a fun way for children to learn music as they play the boomwhackers (pitched tubes whose sounds are produced by hitting them against another object). Singing accompanies both of these ensembles. As students participate in these ensembles, they will learn basic music theory. Additionally, this class will promote music appreciation through the study of the various instruments in the orchestra and the periods of music history from ancient to modern. This course will be graded, and minimal homework will be given. This class will perform at the annual open house in April.
