Beginning Writing – Phonics

$95.00

Writing / Grades K-2 / Period 3 / KW / 1, 2, 3 T

Phonics

Following a diagnostic spelling test given at the August Workshop, this Phonics course will teach/continue to build your child’s journey into handwriting, phonics, spelling, and reading.  These skills will secure a strong foundation for your child that will lead them through to a freedom of written expression and the ability to read, and write, most anything.

Using the 4th edition of The Writing Road to Reading, by Romalda Spalding, (the teal-colored edition) your child will learn/review the 6 strokes necessary for standard printing.  They will learn/review the 70 phonograms that open the pathways to reading, and they will learn/continue to spell appropriate words based upon their individual skill level. There will be weekly homework involving the practice of the handwriting strokes, the writing, and reviewing, of the weekly phonograms, and spelling support – (up to 30 words per week based upon your child’s ability for mastery) once the basic phonograms are mastered.  Your child’s success will be based upon your efforts to hold them true to what is taught in the course. Daily practice is required for your child’s greatest success. Students will progress at their own individual pace, to ensure mastery of the phonograms and spelling rules. There is no grade for this course. It is recommended that the students attend for the full academic year.
