Zoology 2 / 3-5 / Period 1 / NS / 1T-2T-3T

1st Trimester:

Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day is the second year of introductory Zoology, with an emphasis on Aquatic Animals. The first trimester introduces us to the ocean, its makeup, and habitats. We will study whales, seals, reptiles, and their relatives. There will be about two hours of homework per week which includes reading from the text, answering questions from the text, and classroom demonstrations. We will also be building an Ocean Box to show each creature we study and where it lives in the ocean! The Ocean Box will be worked on continuously during the year and will be put on display at the Open House at the end of the year. Grades will be based on homework assignments and chapter tests. Students will need a notebook or binder for handouts and lab work.

2nd Trimester:

Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day continues with the study of Aquatic Animals. In this second trimester, we will study bony fish, sharks, crustaceans, cephalopods, and mollusks. We will add creatures to our Ocean Box every week for the Open House. There will be about two hours of homework per week which includes reading from the text, answering questions from the text, and classroom demonstrations. Grades will be based on homework assignments and chapter tests. Students will need a notebook or binder for handouts and lab work.

3rd Trimester:

Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day concludes with an in depth study of echinoderms, cnidarians, and sponges. We will complete the Ocean Box for Open House which is at the end of this trimester! A field trip to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago will be offered but is not required for the class. There will be about two hours of homework per week which includes reading from the text, answering questions from the text, and classroom demonstrations. Grades will be based on homework assignments and chapter tests. Students will need a notebook or binder for handouts and lab work.
